Welcome to Chestnut Ridge School Based Mental Health Services
Know you’re not wrong
Keep in mind that experts say people who are successful in life are not those who don’t have any problems, but those who are good at getting help and rebounding from adversity.
Bring it up
Pick a low-key moment. It’s easier to talk when everyone is feeling comfortable. You don’t want to be competing for their attention with other things or siblings.
Explain how your feeling
Say what you’re having trouble with, and how it’s affecting you.
say you want help
Don’t get caught up trying to analyze or explain why you might be feeling this way. Just say, “I want to see someone who can help. I want to learn some strategies so I can start feeling better.”
if you need to, try again
“It isn’t always a good time for parents to talk,” says clinical psychologist Rachel Busman, PhD. “If you feel like your parents brushed you off before, try asking them again.” Sometimes it takes parents a little time to get the message.
don’t wait
The sooner you ask for help, the sooner you’ll start feeling better, so don’t put the conversation off. You’ll be proud of yourself afterward, and feeling less alone can be a big relief.

Introduction to Strong Minds: Strong Schools Program
The Strong Minds: Strong Schools initiative, presented by Chestnut Ridge Counseling Services, Inc., is a comprehensive school-based mental health program. This initiative offers a broad spectrum of therapy services directly within the school environment, conveniently integrated into the student’s daily schedule. Our goal is to address and manage various behavioral health challenges that students may encounter.
Service Delivery and Confidentiality
Students are referred to a qualified school-based therapist, who provides individualized therapy sessions during school hours. These sessions focus on a range of identified behavioral health issues. We adhere strictly to the confidentiality standards equivalent to those of traditional outpatient therapy, ensuring a secure and private therapeutic environment within the school setting.
Referral Process
Referrals to the Strong Minds: Strong Schools program can be initiated by various sources, including school staff, Student Assistance Program (SAP) teams, the students themselves, other programs within Chestnut Ridge Counseling Services, Inc., or family members.
Targeted Treatment Areas
Our program specifically addresses the following areas:
– Problematic or Disruptive Classroom Behaviors
– Challenges in Peer Interaction
